October 1991 It is intended that Directory information should be readily accessible, and the Directory itself places no restrictions on the use of such information. However, when using the Directory you should: 1 comply with requirements of the providers of all the computers, networks and services which may be involved in the operation of the Directory. These would typically include a use for academic and research use only. b no advertising of goods or services. c no sale of the information obtained. d no searches or related operations so large as to consume significant resources. 2 respect the privacy of individuals whose details are in the Directory. In particular, you should a honour an individual's expressed wishes, such as can be conveyed by a mail preference attribute. b acknowledge use of the Directory in any unsolicited communications. c let each individual know on any occasion when her or his details are made known to a third party.
