Zambia has two separate railroad systems: TAZARA, the Tanzania-Zambia Rail Authority, built and operated by the Chinese and the ZRL, Zambia Railways Limited. For TAZARA, please see a separate section in this picture archive.

This locomotive is a class 01 machine of the Zambia Railways Ltd. It is a totally rebuilt or "remanufactured" originally US machine of the US type GT36CU-MP, built by Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in the 1960s and rebuilt in Malaysia since 2015 by SMH Rail of Malaysia so that only the body frame remained of the old loco. It is a six axle, 1067 mm gauge (so called Cape gauge) locomotive. Zambia Railways has 15 of them.
