		   README for GNU development tools
			    Cygnus Support

This directory contains binaries (and probably sources) for various GNU
compilers, assemblers, linkers, debuggers, etc., plus their support
routines, libraries, definitions, and documentation.

This directory is part of a coordinated release of development tools.
Not all tools will be in each release, depending on the requirements of
each supported system. The versions of the GNU tools under this directory
probably vary slightly from the official Free Software Foundation
releases, since the process of making such a coordinated release
involved fixing various problems as they arise, independently of FSF
release schedules. We work continuously with the Foundation to keep
the differences between our tools and their tools to a minimum.

To install these development tools, see INSTALL.

For information on building these tools from the supplied source code,
see src/README. (Online distributions of binaries have source code
in a separate file next to where the binaries were made available.)

Cygnus Support offers commercial support for these tools. If problems
in GNU tools get in the way of doing what you really want to do, please
call us; the progress you'll make will be well worth the price. For
most users, paying for support on free software is cheaper than
buying commercial software, and offers many other advantages as well.

If you encounter problems, we encourage you to report them, using the
supplied `send_pr' program, whether or not you are a Cygnus customer.
Of course, we give the bug reports from our customers higher priority
than bug reports from other users of these free tools. You can also
send bug reports to the bug-TOOL@prep.ai.mit.edu (e.g. bug-gcc, bug-gdb)
mailing lists maintained by the Free Software Foundation.

Most of these tools have online and printed documentation. The online
documentation is in the `info' and `man' subdirectories, and can be read
with the corresponding `info' and `man' commands. Full sources for the
documentation, allowing typeset manuals to be printed, are supplied with
the source code for each tool. Check the Makefile.in file in each
subdirectory for details on how to do this.

We hope you enjoy using our tools. Let us know if we did a particularly
good or bad job from your point of view. You can reach us at:
