Kite events in July I would like a list of Kite events in the Northwest U.S. for the Month of July if possible. Spencer Chun may be comming to the mainland and I would like to know what events he might want to attend. If you are involved with a Kite event in the Northwest in July and would like for Spencer to attend and bring some of his kites, he can be contacted by snail or via my email. carl -- crowell@teleport.COM Public Access User --- Not affiliated with TECHbooks Public Access UNIX and Internet at (503) 220-1016 (2400-14400, N81) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 28 Feb 1995 20:24:55 -1000 From: dickbell@netcom.com (Dick Bell) Message-Id: Organization: NETCOM On-line Communication Services (408 261-4700 guest) Subject: Re: N.W. Spencer creates some of the finest tetra's that you'll ever see. He also is very free with his knowledge of building these kites. His kites (tetra and others) incorporate aplique second to none...and many of his designs are of native hawaiian background. Very fresh and pretty. Spenser would be a very welcome guest at any festival... -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dick Bell dickbell@netcom.com Dallas, Texas = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 1 Mar 1995 05:40:25 -1000 From: sparks@netcom.com (Steve Millspaugh) Message-Id: Organization: NETCOM On-line Communication Services (408 261-4700 guest) Subject: Re: N.W. Usually held around the end of June, this event is dependent on favorable tides due to the (relatively) narrow beach. Upon review of this years tide tables, the July dates were chosen. If this means that Spencer may attend, maybe it was fortunate. I look forward to meeting him at Fort Worden, and will mention the Westport event to him then. Kite events in July Sometimes I can't control myself Carl, and this is one of those times; forgive me. July, (any year) Washington State Rain Festival - July 1 - August ?? Many events are scheduled throughout the year, most significant in this time frame are: Dry Foot Challenge - Manufactures of Boots of any type on an international level. Competition includes. Record breaking attempts crossing any downtown Seattle street. No winners yet, but many people have nearly made it to the curb. Nor-Easter Cap event - not nearly as popular. Requires participants to wear a covering over their heads. Most people complain that they are likely to miss occassional stray sun rays which sporadicaly occur in Washington. Several participants have achieved "Towel Dried". That is, hair is somewhat wet, but not dripping. Slug Wrestling - More fun than Greased Pig Races, and paced with Northwesterners in mind. Slug Wrestling has become more popular in recent years as touring kite flyers compete for flying fields. Humans are gaining ground in all events. Last year the slugs took it by only a 10 to 1 margin, compared to previous years averaging 16-1. Many chemical compounds, found to be somewhat irritating to slugs, have been stolen >From neighboring toxic waste dumps. Spraying these compounds on the reigning slugs seems to slow them down. Web-Foot Week End. Native Washingtonians are still the 'toes down' winners. But a few years ago there was an Oregon Duck that almost took this event. Rumor has it that there is a field in Boring, Oregon which has been dry as early as July 15th. This rumor has been unsubstantiated. There used to be an "Dry Suit" competition. Scuba equipment manufactures quit several years ago. One manufacturer of a spray on was getting really close, but continues to have problems with breathing apparatus that has to be worn when using this special coating. A kid named "Bill" over in Redmond used a super glue to attach Seagull feathers awhile back. His attorneys are working on patents for the remover as well as copyrights on the installation instructions. Scheduled release date is 1983, 84, 85. Contrary to massive amounts of propaganda produced by the Tourist and Convention bureau there is very little outdoor recreation in these parts. Certainly there are no good flying areas.
