I used to make yearly visits years ago to the Kite Store on Neal street and was allways finding a little treasure of craftmanship. I am passing through London, Paris, and Zurich in March on my way to Madagascar and Tunisia and would welcome suggestions of stores to visit. P.S. I tend to favor the single line , artistic kites or solid performers like the old thermal clipper etc. I am particularly fussy about quality sewing. Yes that store is still there. There is also a new store in Carnaby Street which while having less variety of kites has a better selection of 2 liners. In my own experience I have found the sales people at the Carnaby street store to be less pushy and hold a more balanced opinion of the merits of various kites. This is probably due to the fact that Lite Flite kites are made by the Neal Street store (I think), and the guy at the kite store in Neal Street knows most of the kite makers and prefers to tell you about them and how may times he got drunk with them :-) However, I have bought kites from both stores and had great success. The diversity of kite types at the Neal Street store makes it a joy to spend the odd hour or three in. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 1 Feb 1995 05:39:41 -1000 From: Larry Botheras <100422.2561@CompuServe.COM> Message-Id: <3go9vt$m4o$1@mhadf.production.compuserve.com> Organization: Chelmsford (UK) Skyliners SKC Subject: Re: Kite Store in London Kite Store certainly does still exist, although stock levels over the past year have been disappointing. I suppose that the liteflight is now severly outdated, but it still has an importance to me. I still have fond memories of sitting at the beach, when there was hardly enough wind to tell which way it was blowwing, flying the liteflite without raising to my feet to move. It *is* a difficult kite to fly. If you try to steer too hard, it'll just jumble out of the sky. It is difficult to persuade it to so a leading edge launch, but these very qualities endeared it to me. One you can do it with this kite, you can do it with anything. This is the kite that first taught me about sensitivity of control.
