My friends with kites: I have been thinking about expanding the FAQ to include the following topics: 1. Kite safety 2. Kiting tips For example, under Kite Safety, we would include things like: 'it is best not to do this when doing that' or 'wear this when doing that' Under Kiting tips, we would have some tips on how to use kites for skiing, traction, powerlifting in a safe manner, or how to do 360's or what ever. Again I ask all of you faithful readers: What do You think? General (including the safety aspects) 2. Reviews 3. Addresses 4. Plans You have been working with reviews. Marty took (didn't you?) the reponsibility to wake up the general part live again. (Marty has been busy with the mailing list/newsgroup gateway - I believe). Marty also has found somebody to take care of the address FAQ. Esben has been taking care of plans - he calls it just "list" but it really gives answers to some "frequently asked questions". I suggest we agree a schedule to post the FAQs regularly as follows: General (by Marty) 1st week of a month Reviews (by Paul) 2nd week of a month Addresses (by ???) 3dr week of.. Plans (by Esben) 4th .. I believe we don't have to vote on this:-) Smooth Winds Simo Salanne = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: 25 Feb 93 16:46:59 GMT From: xrjdm@twinpeaks.gsfc.nasa.gov (Joseph D. It is as Simo has suggested. My life is chaotic enough that I haven't gotten to the FAQ recently, but with the gateway almost finished/debugged I should be able to spend more time on the FAQ. >I suggest we agree a schedule to post the FAQs regularly as >follows: > > General (by Marty) 1st week of a month > Reviews (by Paul) 2nd week of a month > Addresses (by ???) 3dr week of.. > Plans (by Esben) 4th .. This seems fine with me. I'll get to work on my parts of it. We might also want to add a section on good/bad reactions to kite shops and mail order shops, similar to what gets periodically posted to rec.photo. I flew single line kites for a year before I discovered, quite by accident, that I was operating them in violation of the FAA regulations. Since I've started to fly stunt kites, I have yet to go to a beach without seeing atleast one, if not more, kites flown very unsafely. The AKA has a condensed version of the FAA rules regarding kite flying plus some commen sense suggestions that should appear right at the top of the FAQ. These rules are particularly important for those of use who are covered by the AKA libaility policy, because our coverage is voided if we operate outside the rules and regulations. -- -- Kevin P. I think that the problem with putting info about legal restrictions on kite flying in the FAQ is that these tend to differ from country to country. National kite flying groups whose members are mostly from one country are probably in a much better position to distribute such info. The FAQ should probably (I haven't seen that section yet so I don't know what's in and not in) give some rough guidelines e.g. don't fly near airfields etc. and point out to people that there exist restrictions on flying height but that these do differ depending on where you are. I'm all for the safety going at the top too.
