"UNIX TO OS/2 2.0 MIGRATION WORKSHOP"
                       DESCRIPTION & SURVEY

This library file provides a more detailed description of a proposed
workshop that would assist customers in porting their UNIX applications
to the OS/2 2.0 environment.  A message was posted to the 'Migration'
forum section which briefly described this offering on 07/30/92.

A survey is also attached that will provide us some feedback to
determine the need for such a workshop for the UNIX community.


WORKSHOP CONCEPT
================
The workshop is one week long.  It is a combination of classroom
lectures and extensive hands-on lab sessions.

The classroom lectures would concentrate on educating the student on the
major differences/similarities between the 2 platforms.  Examples of
what some of the lectures would cover include:
- Memory management
- Event handling
- Graphical User Interfaces
- Tools to build applications
Many examples of how you would implement a common piece of UNIX code in
the OS/2 2.0 environment will be discussed.

The lab sessions are the "meat" of the workshop.  The customer would
bring in the application that they wish to be ported and any associated
tools that are required to build the application.  This data would be
installed on an appropriate piece of hardware (RISC 6000 or PS/2).  A
"target" PS/2 machine would also be provided to run the ported
application.  During the course of the week, the customer would work on
porting pieces of their UNIX application to the OS/2 2.0 platform.

The instructors for this workshop would be well-versed in both UNIX and
OS/2 2.0.  They will also act in a consulting capacity during the lab
sessions.

It is not the intent of this workshop to have a completely ported
application by the end of the week.  It is primarily a "jumpstart"
session that facilitates a much faster porting process to be completed
at a later date.
