		  Nic.funet.fi hardware information


Hardware

	Nic.funet.fi is Sun SPARCserver 630 equipped with two 40 Mhz
	SPARC CPU/FPU units.  The performance is 50.9 SPECthruputs.
	The system has 128 MBytes of memory.

	We have currently one on-board SCSI-adapter, one SUN S-BUS
	SCSI adapter and one Performance Technologies Inc. PT-SBS430-S
	SCSI adapter.  The maximum performance on the SUN SCSI
	adapters is 5 Mbytes/sec and on PTI 10 MBytes/sec.

	The system is equipped with the following mass-storage devices:

	- Archive QIC-150 MByte 1/4" tape streamer
	- Sun CD-ROM
	- Exabyte EXB-8500 5 Gigabyte 8mm tape

	- 300MB CDC WREN IV for SunOS system software
	- Four 1.6GB Seagate/CDC WREN VIII disks
	- Two 1.2GB Seagate/CDC WREN VII disks
	- Four 2.4GB Micropolis 1924-21 FAST-SCSI disks
	- Two 2.4GB Seagate ST-42400 FAST-SCSI disks

	Total formatted disk capacity is 20 gigabytes wherefrom ~16
	gigabytes is dedicated for FTP archive.  As far as we know
	this is the largest Anonymous FTP archive in the Internet.

SunOS

	Operating system is standard SunOS 4.1.2.  To maintain the
	disk storage we are using Sun's Online: DiskSuite software.
	This enables advanced features such as disk striping across
	several physical disks for more performance and filesystems
	up to 1 terabyte.  The whole 18 gigabytes FTP archive
	is one logical disk partition over several physical disks
	with striping enabled.  For safety reasons we are also 
	mirroring the operating system.
