Norton Your Eyes Only Notes
===========================
Please read this document carefully; it contains important information
not included in the manual.

1 There are various issues when using BootLock on systems
equipped with Windows 95 and Windows NT. This can cause
   any number of problems:
   a. If Windows 95 and Windows NT are installed onto the same
drive, Windows NT will hang during bootup.
   b. If Windows 95 and Windows NT are installed onto different
partitions (and prior to installing BootLock drive C:
could be accessed under NT), Windows NT will boot properly,
but users will be unable to see their C: drive once logged
      in.
   c. On occasion, systems will not boot after attempting to boot
Windows NT. Running the EUNLOCK.EXE program from the
Emergency UnLock diskette will remove BootLock and restore
      boot functionality.

SYMANTEC RECOMMENDS NOT ENABLING THE BOOTLOCK FEATURE ON
   SYSTEMS EQUIPPED WITH WINDOWS NT.

2 If you encrypt files using SmartLock shortly before shutting
down Windows, either by enabling a SmartLock folder, or by
copying or saving files into an existing SmartLock folder, you
may see an error appear during shutdown: "[program name]:You
must close this application before attempting to shut down
Windows." This means that the files you just saved need a bit
more time to fully re-encrypt. Wait a few more seconds before
   shutting down.

3 If you reinstall Your Eyes Only, and use an Emergency UnLock
diskette from a prior installation, Your Eyes Only might not
recognize your SmartLock folders. To solve this, after
installation has completed, copy the SECURDIR.LST file from
your Emergency UnLock diskette to the directory where you
installed Your Eyes Only. Restart your system and log on to
Your Eyes Only again. Your SmartLock folders will function
   properly.

4 If you use the SmartLock feature, and have a large number of
files in a SmartLock folder, you may occasionally see an error
similar to "Cannot access specified path or filename." Some
programs rapidly open and close data files, and the file is
locked during encryption. Wait several minutes, then attempt
   to access the file again.

5 If your software application rapidly opens and closes files,
some files in SmartLock folders may not re-encrypt after use.
Restart Windows then log on to Your Eyes Only again. Upon
login, the Your Eyes Only security monitor will automatically
detect any unencrypted files and re-encrypt them.

6 If you install BootLock and QEMM 8.0 Quick Reboot option is
enabled, your system will hang during reboot. Norton Your Eyes
Only Setup will automatically disable QEMM QuickBoot during
Your Eyes Only installation. If you install QEMM after
installing Your Eyes Only, you will need to manually add "BE:N"
to your QEMM386.SYS command line in CONFIG.SYS to disable
   QuickBoot.

7 When you open and edit source code files contained in SmartLock
folders inside Microsoft Visual C++, a message will display
that "This file has been modified outside of the source
editor." You will be asked if you wish to reload it. If you
click Yes, the error will reappear. Click No to edit the file
   normally.

8 Our documentation states that to exclude ArcSolo 1.0 from
SmartLock decryption, you should include the file ARCSOLO.EXE
into the program exclude key. The filename is incorrect. The
   correct filename is ASRUNJOB.EXE.

9 On systems using Award BIOS v4.50PG, if BootLock is installed,
you may get a blue screen explaining that "your system has been
halted to prevent corruption" immediately after authenticating
   through BootLock.

To solve this problem, run the CMOS/BIOS setup program. In the
"Power Management" setup screen, disable PCI Master 1, 2 and 3
checks. Save the settings and reboot your system.

10 Read this if you use pcAnywhere for Windows 95.
PCAnywhere32 has an option which launches the screen saver
while waiting for a call. Because Your Eyes Only is controlling
your screen savers, this setting in pcAnywhere32 will be ignored.

On some systems, while a remote user is logged in, keystrokes
and mouse movements will not be detected. Thus, ScreenLock may
activate while a user is online. To solve this, disable screen
lock while you are online through pcAnywhere32 remotely.

Disable the "Reboot host after Disconnect" feature of
pcAnywhere32 if BootLock is in use. Otherwise the host system
will reboot and rest idly at the BootLock logon screen.

11 Since Norton Your Eyes Only is a Windows 95 application, and
not designed for use under Windows NT, you will not be able to
decrypt files under Windows NT. Restart your system under
Windows 95 to encrypt and decrypt files.

12 BootLock audit records may show timestamps 1 hour off. This is
due to the way Windows 95 handles Daylight Savings Time.
During DST, Windows 95 adds one hour to the time which the CMOS
system clock reads. Since BootLock loads before the operating
system, it will stamp the time with the actual time your CMOS
clock reads. To solve this problem, disable the DST feature
in Windows 95 from the "Control Panel..Date/Time" applet and
manually change your CMOS time when DST and Standard Time switch.

13 In Microsoft Internet Explorer, if you attempt to open a .GIF
file in a SmartLock folder to which you do not have access,
Internet Explorer will continuously open and close itself in a
loop. To fix this, press Alt+F4 a few times to close the
program. This does not occur with Internet Explorer version 2.0.

14 Files that are deleted from Smartlock Folders are moved to the
Windows 95 Recycle Bin automatically. To delete a file without
having it move to the Recycle Bin, you must use the Secure
Delete function in Norton Your Eyes Only.

15 The Disable Automatic Decryption option on individual files in
a Smartlock folder does not work on Read Only files. If you want
to temporality disable the automatic decryption of a Read Only
file you must uncheck the Read Only attribute as well. When
automatic decryption is turned off, Read Only files work properly.

16 If you copy files larger than 200k from Smartlock folders using
Microsoft Explorer, you might notice the file size changes from
the original size. This is due to a defect in Microsoft
Explorer. Symantec is working closely with Microsoft to fix this
problem. The problem does not occur when you use Norton File
Manager or a DOS box to copy the files. In most cases if you use
the Microsoft Explorer to copy files from a Smartlock Folder,
those files will be fully functional. Some files, like Quick
Time movies, might not function properly. However, these files
can be repaired easily. If you have any problems with files you
think were corrupted by copying them from a Smartlock Folder,
contact Symantec's Technical Support so they can help you repair
   the files.
