Changes in 1.3
--------------

Many of the significant additions and changes to Xgopher for this release
are not immediately visible to the end user. However, the program
is significantly changed! The main emphasis of this release is on
configurability and security. Security is implemented primarily for
a public-access kiosk running Xgopher.

Major areas of change:
. Extended Types - allow support new gopher types all through
                     external resources, no source changes.
  . Other new functions
. Security - server access limitations for certain gopher types,
                     ftp access control, file permissions
. User interface - status popup and file save/copy dialog, ICCCM
compliant, priming "enter gopher item panel"
. Misc bug fixes - mostly minor stuff.
. Configuration - popup positioning, command string editing
. Documentation - all the new features are extensively documented.
. Porting - Has been tested on System 5 and Solaris 2.1

For a complete list of changes, see the "Changes" document.

Acknowledgements
----------------

Thanks to all people who took the time to send me their comments,
suggestions, and problems in previous versions of Xgopher.
All bug reports and many of the suggestions I received have been
addressed in Xgopher 1.3.

Problems
--------

One known problem is if your Athena widget library is compiled
with the international text feature enabled (usually it isn't in
English-speaking countries), you will experience problems compiling
Xgopher. The text widget provided in Xgopher is a subclass of the
"original" Athena text widget. The i18 support changes the definition
of the widget's class record, so the subclassing is done improperly.
I have not had the time to work on this.

Please report and problems, suggestions, or portability problems to
the author of xgopher. e-mail contact is preferred:
