                   CYBERWARE ECHO DEMONSTRATION SOFTWARE
                                for the
                   SILICON GRAPHICS IRIS GT WORKSTATIONS

                             8 AUGUST 1988

A demo of the Echo software may be given with the program 'ee_demo'.

The various source code files, especially 'cyfile.c', 'cyfile.h',
'echoascii.c', and 'sample.c' may be studied and copied for use in your own
software development.

To run the demo:

        ee_demo pathname (try 'ee_demo ../data/kim')

Where filename is the name of any Cyberware type file. The file will be
read for the image header information and surface data. The 'Help' window
will be displayed. The program then computes the surface normals for
the lighting computations. A GT with less than 12 megabytes of RAM may
require about 30 seconds for this computation.

Echodemo then displays the data in both wireframe and rendered forms.
Both the 'Wireframe' and 'Render' windows have pop-up menus. The menu
is displayed with the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON. A selection is made when the
button is released.

The transformation selections operate by selecting them from the menu and then
moving the mouse about. The LEFT MOUSE BUTTON will terminate the particular
transformation and allow another selection to be made.

Watch the 'Help' window for clues as to what the program is expecting from
you at any particular time.

The standard GT 4Sight technique of holding the CTRL or ALT key during
mouse movements will lend some sanity to mouse movements which cause the
cursor to leave the window.

Experimentation is best. We could explain it all here with several thousand
words, but you might as well go ahead and experiment until we write them...

In addition to the image 'kim' there are usually other data files, they
may be identified by giving the command:

        ls -l

The files with about 262390 bytes are probably Echo type files. To confirm
the file type and display some interesting information about the file give
the command:

        head -20 filename

This will display the Echo file header. Echo files obtained from other
sources than this demo may have an old style header and print garbage.

        sample image_file 100

All of the source code for the demo has been supplies with this distribution.
The demo may be re-compiled with the command 'make'.

Demo software for Silicon Graphics IRIS 3000, Silicon Graphics 4d, and the
SUN Microsystems 3/xxx products are also available.
