This week's bulletin was written by Ingemar Sandberg. Electronic Edition edited by George Wood. Packet Radio BID SCDX2073 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SATELLITE--The Soviet space station MIR is inhabited again. Look for signals from the cosmonauts on 143.625 MHz. (George Wood) Before the "Challenger" disaster, there were three Amateur radio operations from the American space shuttles. Now, with the program resumed, more amateur radio operations are planned. Ron Parise, WA4SIR, one of the radio amateurs who previously operated from the shuttle, is scheduled to operate a 2 meter (144 MHz) packet radio and voice station. That operation is currently scheduled for launch on April 26, 1990. Another American astronaut, Ken Cameron, recently received amateur radio licence KA5EWP. He is scheduled for a later shuttle mission. If approval for amateur radio operations is granted, he may operate a slow scan television station, sending pictures from the shuttle. The operation of the Japanese amateur radio satellite FUJI-Oscar 12 (also known as JAS-1)) ended November 5th, because the solar panels were generating too little power. The Japanese Amateur Radio Legue is now preparing a successor, JAS-1B, which is scheduled for launch in February, 1990. The launch of two very small amateur radio satellites, currently known as UoSAT-D and UoSAT-E, have been moved forward to January 9, 1990. ("Space News" via Kauto Huopio) ARGENTINA--Radio Belgrano, call sign LRY2, in Buenos Aires is testing on 11781.2 kHz with one kilowatt since November 20th.
