Etherman : graphically monitors all local Ethernet traffic	13th April 1993
--------

Etherman is an X11 based tool which displays a representation of real-time
Ethernet communications. Network data is promiscously received via a system
"network tap" and summarised into useful statistics. These statistics are
displayed in a graphical manner, as to allow both experienced network managers
and newbies an insight as to how a network is being used. Etherman will also
provide protocol summaries, usage statistics and postscript(tm) snapshots of
network activity.

Installation and use:

At present only binaries are available and you must be root to execute.
The binaries assume you have the hershey font libraries installed on your
system under /usr/local/lib/hershey. As most of you will not have these fonts
simply get hold of ~ftp/pub/netman/hershey-[sun4c|dec-mips].tar.Z from
ftp.cs.curtin.edu.au. Untar the archive from /usr/local/lib.

An /etc/ethers file (or "ypcat ethers") is highly recommended as this
information is used to identify each active device. If you do not have an
ethers file you may create one yourself (man ethers) or use a program like
getethers(81) to generate a list of hostnames/addresses.

We *STRONGLY* suggest that you use an X11R5 server and not the native
OpenWindows or DECwindows. Although Etherman will work under Open/DECwindows,
the display updates are extremely slow (especially for OpenWin).
