Short: CixEd 2.0 beta - An off-line mail and conference reader for CIX Author: Steve Litchfield Uploader: psion-adm@nic.funet.fi Type: s5/comms/mail CixEd 2.0 beta -------------- An off-line mail and conference reader for CIX for the Psion Series 5 Note to upgraders: in an attempt to get to the bottom of some of the blink hangs people have been experiencing, please a) edit your CIX profile to remove any "mail status" commands, b) clear your read mail every day, and c) try not to let your messagebase become fragmented (i.e. gaps of more than a couple of missing messages in a topic) Changes from 1.9: ------------------ Terminal mode added (automates just the log on); uses single-pass scratchpad collection for speed; null sender names now handled; cancelling resign or join requests now doesn't crash program later on; now handles up to 80 topics (max displayable on screen!!); longer conference/topic names allowed on 'join'; dialling locations dialog added for mobile/office/home deployment; handles Ameol 'terse' scratchpads, though be careful about not leaving gaps in your CixEd messagebase; message sender can now be added directly to the address book; ------------------ Installation ============ To install CixEd and try it for yourself, put all the unzipped files into a \System\Apps\CixEd folder on any disk. A new icon will appear on your Extras bar if you've done things correctly. Instructions ============ Mostly on-line in the help file. Experienced CIXen will already know how the program works, as it tends to mimic the operation of CIX itself. The help file will be expanded significantly in future versions, to help new CIX users. Please also join and refer to extra information in the 'cixed' conference on CIX itself. The future ========== Things still to come in future versions: 1) More configurable blinks and more preferences 2) A fix for the XModem-delay problem. I'm beginning to lose heart, though. If any of you have comms expertise and can get a S5 to upload successfully to CIX using any protocol without a startup delay, then PLEASE tell me how! Registration ============ So there we have it. CixEd is born and hopefully will meet with your approval so far. If you would like to register with me and support future development, then please send a cheque for 15 pounds to Steve Litchfield 22 Grays Crescent Woodley Reading RG5 3EN As with all my shareware projects (I program for the Psion full-time), I depend on you for my livelihood and obviously only want to put effort into projects which I think will help me pay my bills! 8-) Cheers Steve Litchfield, November 1997 Acknowledgements ================ Thanks to stevegodfrey, hwright, hzk, rtrue and others on Cix for their help and suggestions.
