Short: Thesaurus Link v2.00 Author: ahirst@theoffice.net (Henry Hirst) URL: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/ahirst/ Uploader: psion-adm@nic.funet.fi Type: s5/apps/hkey Thesaurus Link v2.00 (Freeware) For upgraders - The major change is the removal of the need for ThesLink to be in the background. This means that it does not stop operating of it is cycled through when scanning open files\programs. The use of Fn+key has been abandoned as it has too many restrictions, due to the reservation of some combinations to support additional characters. Replace: ThesLink.opo ThesLink.wrd ThesLink.txt The exisiting configuration file ...\ThesLink.cfg is compatible with this version. What is it? ----------- Thesaurus Link provides a hotkey to easily switch to and from the Thesaurus function in Spell.app. In standalone mode, Thesaurus Link has a configurable default of Fn+Ctrl+L If the target application supports the system copy/paste clipboard, and uses Ctrl+C for copy and Ctrl+V to paste, ThesLink will work with it. Thesaurus Link automatically presents your chosen word to Thesaurus, and returns your preferred synonym. As it is an opo file, it will not clutter-up the 'Extras' icon bar. Installation ------------- ThesLink.wrd this file - Word format (optional) ThesLink.txt this file - text format (optional) ThesLink.opo to any folder for stand alone use, or to \System\Apps\HotKeys\ for integrated use with my HotKeys.app (see my web page) sysram1.opx \System\Opx\ (if not already installed) You may have to create the \System\ ... folders. Ensure you have enabled the 'Show System Folder' option under the 'Tools', 'Preferences' menu option in the System Screen (shortcut Ctrl+K) Instructions for use -------------------- From the system screen, run Thesaurus Link, by either tapping on ThesLink.opo, or by cursor highlighting and pressing Enter. If using in conjunction with HotKeys.app, there is an option to run Thesaurus Link from the menu Run item. An initial screen reminds you of the following instructions (Don't worry, it is much easier to do than to describe). From here you can change the hotkey and set the auto-space behaviour. You should avoid any hotkey combination assigned to other applications. 1. In the target document, place the cursor at the start of the word for Thesaurus look-up action. 2. Press the hotkey to switch to/run the Spell.app. A speedier response occurs if Spell.app is already running. 3. Thesaurus Link will present your choice of word to Spell.app and a Thesaurus look-up will automatically be called for you. 4. Highlight any available synonym you want, using the cursor keys, or press to keep your original word. 5. Pressing the hotkey again returns you to the target document, and your choice of synonym, if any, is pasted, replacing the highlighted choice as appropriate. 6. With 'autospace' selected, a space is automatically inserted after the newly pasted synonym. If there was no synonym to choose from, or you have chosen not to replace the original selection (by pressing in the Thesaurus), you will end up with a double space after the original word. With auto-space off, you will have to insert a space after any pasted synonym. You have to choose whether auto-space saves you more effort in the long run! Your choice is saved between sessions, and the default behaviour is autospace=On 7. To exit Thesaurus Link: a. Bring ThesLink to the foreground by selecting it from the Task List in the main System screen (Ctrl+J). At the ThesLink splash screen, press . ThesLink will be closed along with any running example of the Thesaurus. b. ThesLink.Opo can also be closed directly from the System Task List (Ctrl+J) in the main System Screen. If Ctrl+E does not work, ThesLink.opo can be 'killed' with Shift+Ctrl+E, like any other application. Notes ----- 1. ThesLink will only work as intended if the target application supports the system copy/paste clipboard and uses Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste. 2. The return hotkey combination switches back to the document ThesLink was called from. If you switch to another document after invoking the Thesaurus, but before hotkey leaving it, results may be unpredictable. 3. The user defined hotkey choice is saved between sessions. A small configuration file "ThesLink.cfg" is created in the same folder as ThesLink.opo for this purpose. For upgraders from versions earlier than v1.06, your existing C:\ThesLink.cfg will be moved. 4. If you want to have a different hotkey to the default, you should not put ThesLink.opo in the root of C:\ (i.e. C:\ThesLink.opo). Indemnity --------- Thesaurus Link has been tested by me and has been absolutely fine. However, Thesaurus Link is Freeware and is provided 'as is.' In using it, you accept all and every risk, which includes agreement that it would be unreasonable to hold me legally responsible for any incident which could be proved attributable to this program. You are free to distribute Thesaurus Link, provided it is accompanied by this file in an unaltered state. Feedback -------- Your feedback and comments are welcomed, particularly from any OPL programmers who want to exchange knowledge. I hope it's useful.
