Short: Shortcut V1.0 - simulate Windows 95 Shortcuts Uploader: psion-adm@nic.funet.fi Type: s5/apps/hkey Shortcut V1.0 Freeware Preview release 1 notes ============================================== Shortcut is a preview of a small freeware app that enables Psion Series 5 users to simulate Windows 95 Shortcuts. I find Shortcuts quit useful in Windows, so I knocked up a quick app to do the same. Shortcut is Freeware and will remain so. Shortcut works by creating a file which on average is about 300 bytes in size. This file contains a link to the source file. The Shortcut can be deleted, renamed or moved, and will retain the shortcut as long as the original file does not move. This app is freeware. There are no splash screens and the only mention of me appears in the bottom right corner on startup if you start it from the Extras menu. To install it, copy all the files into a C:\system\apps\Shortcut directory. (it will work on drive D: as well) I wanted Shortcut to be fairly transparent to EPOC 32 so the best way to use it is like this:- 1. From the System screen, click on new file. 2. Pick Shortcut from the Application list. 3. Type in the filename. 4. You will then see the "Create Shortcut" Dialog. Your filename will already be entered. 5. Use the "Document Filename" prompt to locate the drive, directory and file you want to link to. The file must be a registered file belonging to an application. 6. Click OK and it's done In the directory you chose a file will be created of the name you specified, and if you double click it, the linked file will be loaded. If the Linked file is already in memory, Shortcut will switch to it. That's it. Couldn't be simpler. If you want to re-point the shortcut. Delete it and re-create it. It's quick, so I didn't implement an edit capability in this version. Hope you like it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Know Problems with the V1.0 Preview 1 PLEASE NOTE, I have not obtained an offical UID code for Shortcut yet. This means that I am using an internal UID code that *may* clash with another third party application. Shortcut does not clash with any of the standard apps, S5bank, Backlite, MapperLo, PScrawl, EasyFax, Z80 but may clash with you own OPL program if you have use UID &02000000. I will be obtaining an official UID from Psion. When the final is ready, I will put in place some routines to convert your existing shortcut files. Other issues. -------------- - If you don't use the create new option from the system screen, and fail to specify a full path, the shortcut will be put in the C:\ directory. - DON'T USE SPACES IN YOUR SHORTCUT NAMES. Files will not be generated properly. Stick to Single word names. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Usual disclaimers, if Shortcut frys your machine, then crack open the marshmellows and start singing. You install at your own risk, as with any application. I accept no responsiblity for any data loss, hair loss, or general lack of sex drive once installed. OK, QED, TCPIP. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks for downloading Shortcut V1.0 Preview JasonK History V1.0 - Initial release
