                         PLAYING AUDIO ON A MACINTOSH

In order to playback or decode MPEG audio files on a Macintosh,
   first...

   Download MPEG_CD_1.0.5.sea.hqx (640K)

MEPG/CD can be configured to lower the quality of decompression so
that Macs slower than PowerMacs can decode songs within this century.

MPEG/CD is Finder friendly (meaning you can double click or drag songs
onto the application icon) and can be configured with Netscape. Check
the documentation that comes with the application for instructions.

More MPEG Audio solutions (including encoders and streamed audio
decoders) can be found at Kauai Media's web at http://www.kauai.com/~bbal/

AIFF-MPEG encoding can be accomplished with mpeg-aud-10a8-fpu.hqx.
The process is slow and results are spotty, but the application is
freely available (not free, just available).

mpeg-audio-032.hqx is another MPEG audio decoder that is currently
being developed, but is not currently as full featured as MPEG/CD.
However, on higher-end PowerMacs, it is the only decoder that can
playback full fidelity in real time.
