       DESCRIPTION

The program uses a large set of environment variables to
control its behavior. These are initialized when the
program is first started. Several environment files are
read to initialize variables specific to your site. Many of
these may be changed to suit your needs. Others are
dependent on either graphics hardware, file structures or
digitizer type. These must be changed with care.

The current value of a variable may be printed with this
command. If a variable is not given, the entire environment
       is printed.

When you first start the _E_c_h_o program it looks for a file
named It must exist, and be readable, in one of th following
directories. Th directories are searchd in tis order: th
current directory (.), your edirectory (~), /usr/lib/ec/var/ec/usr/local/ec Only
th first occurance will be accessed. n(!Z=\n(.k)&(\n(Np=0))

n(;2-\n(:J Th .ecfilemay define several variables. Variables
specific to certain commands may be contained in additional
files defined by tis file. n(!Z=\n(.k)&(\n(Np=0)) .br

n(;2-\n(:J Any variable not defined in thse files will
default to a reasonable internal value. Ti \f3getvar\f2
command will give an error message. Tis default value can
only be determined by looking in th appendix of tis manual
       (defaults.).
