It displays a floating palette of visited pages, either as thumbnails or a text list. Unlike Netscape's history, entries don't disappear when Navigator is quit, aren't removed by going "back" or closing a browser window, and can be saved for a specified number of days, so the user can easily go back and find the address of a visited page. Palette entries can be double-clicked or dragged to an open browser window to reload a page. Entries may also be dragged from the floating palette to Navigator's Bookmark Window to bookmark specific web pages. In addition, CyberViewer can be configured to alert the user when web pages are done loading by playing a user-specified sound. Hirschberg" Subject: Disk Crashes with System 8.1 We just had our 4th Mac hard drive come up with an unreadable hard drive. The things in common are they are PowerMacs (1400c/166, APS MPower204, & 2 G3/233DT's. They started showing signs of unstable behavior such as files disappearing or type 1 errors in programs. When Norton 3.5.2 was run they showed several volume bit errors and file tree errors. I ran Norton and repaired the disks. I ran Norton again and they came up clean. Then when I rebooted the drive would come up as unreadable (Do I want to initialize?). Norton can see the disk but can not mount it or repair it (sometimes Norton will crash as it tries to repair it). The drives cannot be repaired with desktop utilities (the last disk gave an error of: Extent, 4, 2097155) and can not be mounted with the drive tools utility. A new driver can be installed but it does not help. The only solution is to do a low level format of the drive and reinstall everything. The drive on the 1400c/166 could not be formatted with a new system 8.1 disk or the system 8.0 disk that came with it. The only work around was to use reformat and install using the 7.6 disk for the 1400 and then upgrade to system 8.0 and then 8.1. I zapped the pram. I did my time with Apple Support and they could not figure out what was going on. All our Macs here are running system 8.1 so I do not think that is the problem by itself. The ones that accumulate errors and crash are using Eudora Pro 4.0.1, Navigator 4.05, Office 98 the most, and have Apple Data detectors 1.0.2, and quickdraw 3.0 installed. All have lots of memory 64 and 128 MB and large, fast hard drives and 12x, 20x or 24x cdrom drives. Sorry this is so scrambled. I have spent most of my time recovering files and rebuilding in the last few days. If someone has been compiling info on similar problems please let me know. Norton Utilities seems to be pretty useless and even may be making the problem worse. I remember the days when Symantec Utilities actually worked and you could talk to their tech support people. Has anyone tried DiskEssentials from Total Recall? Does it work better then their Website? Is there an online review or comparison to Norton anywhere?
