Most were made from my residence near Ann Arbor using a Kenwood R-5000 & a dipole or a Sony SW-55 & a longwire, or my car, using a Kenwood TS-50 with a tuned whip. One or two were made with a Yupiteru MVT-7100 handheld & its extendable whip antenna. 010520Z JUN 94 5211USB WGY-912 (FEMA SF, Mount Weather VA) accepting check-ins from miscellaneous stations during a drill. Stations gave ID, agency, region, city, state & ZIP. The operator at the FEMA SF kept giving their callsign as "WG912," & had a very difficult time in cope check-ins. Most check-ins were MARS affiliate stations. NNN0BQW (Navy MARS, Region 3, Harlingen, TX 78550), NNN0HAQ (Navy MARS, DeeTroit, MI 48223), KBQ-25 (FAA, Ft. Worth ARTCC, TX 76155) at 0618Z, FIREBRAND 354 (CAP, Kekaha, HI 96752), WGY-963 (State of VA Emergency Operations Center, Richmond, VA 23225), etc. 020432Z JUN 94 5211USB NIGHTWATCH 01 with a phone patch to WAR-46 (ANMCC Duty Officer) via WGY-912 (FEMA Special Facility, Mt. Weather VA) for routine comms check. 021345Z JUN 94 11243USB FIVAR 46 requesting a patch to Minot Base Ops via Offutt GHFS. At 1357Z, the patch was finally put through (delay was due to various 369s, EAMs, & ??). 46 advised Minot Dispatch that their ETB was 1435Z, & that they did have the VIPs aboard. 081751Z JUN 94 11176USB ANTIGUA RADIO with a phone patch to DSN -------- (Patrick AFB ops) via Albrook GHFS. Antigua wanted to know if aircraft REACH 50247 had taken off yet. Patrick advised they had. Patch terminated at 1753Z. 081805Z JUN 94 11176USB EPIC 51 with a patch to Patrick Base Ops via MacDill GHFS. EPIC 51 advised that they were making a maintenance divert to Patrick AFB, & that their ETA was 1910Z. They mentioned that EPIC 51 was a C-130, tail # 21451. 081811Z JUN 94 11176USB REACH 50247 requesting Albrook GHFS advise HILDA (Tanker Airlift Control Center, Scott AFB) that they departed at 1744Z & their ETA at TAPA (Antigua) was 2105Z (see 081751Z JUN 94 11176USB logging). 081827Z JUN 94 11176USB AXE 75 (--------) with a phone patch to AXE OPS (---------------) via Albrook GHFS. AXE 75 advised AXE OPS that they were maint. code 1, & should be landing on time. 081944Z JUN 94 9057USB PACAF 01 (aircraft transporting CINC PACAF) working Andrews VIP. PACAF 01 needed a message relayed to R.O. 1 (Radio Operator 1) aboard callsign BACK FIELD (ABNCP). Also mentioned callsign PARSONAGE. QSY'ed to 15041USB, & then 8967USB.. 082002Z JUN 94 11226USB AIR FORCE ONE, returning to U.S. from England, working Andrews Mystic Star reference a crypto problem with one of the HF data circuits. 082008Z JUN 94 11226USB NIGHTWATCH 01, BACK FIELD, & WAR-46 with SCACS net. These guys chased AF1 & Andrews (see 082002Z JUN 94 11226USB logging) off to another frequency! 092117Z JUN 94 13207USB AIR FORCE RESCUE 215 calling PLANTATION (------------------------------). After numerous tries, PLANTATION finally answered. 215 requested a phone patch to extension 4580. 215 advised "4580" that if the Coast Guard needed them for a longer time, whether they should recycle (refuel) at Patrick (AFB) or "home." 092336Z JUN 94 11176USB PUMA 70with a phone patch to Howard CP via Albrook. PUMA 70 advised they were a C-12 with a 0120Z ETA at Howard. Next patch was to Howard Metro. 70 asked for the 0120Z forecast, & advised they were coming in from the Pacific (ocean) side of S. America. 092343Z JUN 94 11176USB SHARK 84 with a patch to LOBO (-------------------------------) via Albrook GHFS. 84 advised LOBO that their arrival time was 2017, departure was 2330, & ETA Quito was 0030Z. 100413Z JUN 94 11176USB NITER (?) 06 requesting a phone patch to RAYMOND 37 (Dyess AFB CP) via Andrews. 06 requested to know if scheduling had given them clearance for IR-165. They were advised that they weren't cleared for that low-level route, & that they should "call it a night." 06 had RAYMOND 37 authenticate, & then cleared out. 100424Z JUN 94 11176USB PAWN 66 (398th Ops Group KC-135) with a phone patch to Castle AFB Metro for a 0520Z ETA Castle via Offutt GHFS. 131645Z JUN 94 11176USB MUROC 27 (C-17A Globemaster III aircraft) with a phone patch to DSN -------- (Wright-Patterson AFB Metro). via Offutt GHFS. 27 asked for a 1915Z weather forecast. At 1650Z, MUROC 27 requested a phone patch to DSN -------- (---------------------). MUROC 27 advised MUROC OPS that they were ops normal, & had a 1915Z ETB at WPAFB. 131745Z JUN 94 11176USB MOOSE 17 calling MacDill several times. Andrews GHFS answers, and 17 requests a patch to Charleston AFB CP. Initiated at 1746Z, MOOSE 17 advises CP that their AR was complete, & that they have extra fuel. CP advised to fly local pattern work until reaching minimum fuel, then land at Charleston. MOOSE 17 advised they had at 2000Z ETB, were maint. status Alpha-2, and would require customs & agriculture. Patch terminated at 1748Z, 17 asked for a phone patch to any Metro. 1749Z patch to Charleston Metro initiated, & Metro passed a 2000Z forecast. MOOSE 17 gave a PIREP advising that they were a C-17A at position 42.35N, 068.16W & FL 350. Patch terminated at 1751Z. At 1759Z, MOOSE 17 contacts Andrews & requests a phone patch to RAYMOND 16 (Langley AFB CP). 17 advised RAY 16 that they had a 1920Z ETA, and was requesting permission to make a low approach while burning off fuel before landing at Charleston. Permission was granted, so next patch was back to Charleston CP requesting permission for the low approach at Langley AFB. 131805Z JUN 94 11176USB 22nd "MEU" (?) calling any station. Despite 8 or 9 calls, they never got an answer. I would guess that it was the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit. 141637Z JUN 94 11176USB GORDO 11 requesting a patch to DSN -------- via Andrews GHFS. After several minutes, Andrews requested GORDO 11 meet them on 11243. On 11243, GORDO called Andrews for several minutes, with no answer. 11 went back to 11176, contacted Andrews, & this time, Andrews told GORDO 11 to meet Andrews on 15015. 11 calls Andrews on 15015 several times, but again, no answer (I would have heard Andrews GHFS on 11243 or 15015 if they had tried to contact the aircraft). A half hour after the initial phone patch request, I was still hearing poor old GORDO 11 trying to contact Andrews on several different GHFS channels... 141708Z JUN 94 11247USB Two 89th AW communications systems operators BS'ing back & forth. The guys used their first names instead of real callsigns, on mentioned that he was over Kansas City -- 38N, 92W. One of the CSOs advised that his phone # on the ground (hotel or aircraft phone drop?) w e 816/891-----. Area code 816 is Kansas City, MO area. Both operators had poor OPSEC/COMSEC, probably because they thought that no one would catch them on their 'private BS' channel. It turns out that Klinton was going to be in Kansas City that day, so one aircraft might have been AF1. 141724Z JUN 94 9023USB BANDSAW ALPHA, DRAGNET UNIFORM, OKIE SAM & NORTHERN LIGHTS coordinating their LINK-11 participating unit codes. Also gave 'papa uniform' for callsign PYRAMID. BANDSAW ALPHA had a couple of operators who needed VOICE TEL training, & were going to meet OAK GROVE on 256.0MHz. 141843Z JUN 94 11176USB MUROC 27 in a phone patch to a Metro service via Offutt GHFS. MUROC 27 gave a PIREP indicating that they were a C-17A, at FL 350, position 38-14N, 09-24.2W. Next patch was to MUROC OPS. 27 advised Ops that their ETB was 2125Z. 162243Z JUN 94 11176USB CATBIRD (------------ P-3 aircraft) requesting a phone patch to commercial # 703/425------ (Dottie, crew member's wife) via Andrews GHFS. CATBIRD had recently departed Andrews, headed for their home-plate of Naples, Italy (-----------------). 171702Z JUN 94 11176USB RODD 20 (439th AW [AFRES] C-5A) with a phone patch to CASINO ROYALE (Westover ARB CP) at DSN -------- via Andrews Global. RODD 20 was enroute to Dover AFB, but wanted to head home to Westover due to problems with INS #1 & 2. 211653Z JUN 94 11176USB VOCALIST contacting MacDill GHFS, & requesting a discrete frequency for AUTODIN access. First tried 11217, then settled on 13217kHz. 222314Z JUN 94 15011USB KING 33 (HC-130, based at Patrick AFB) calls SHADO 12 first on 11176USB. SHADO 12 answers as FROST 12, & 33 suggests they go to 13207USB. Stations were weak there, so they went to 15011USB. KING 33 advised they were "Eastbound, over the Atlantic" & the male radio operator asked the female R.O. aboard FROST 12 "How's the best looking R.O. in the AF?" She ("Diane") responded with "Doin' fine." A male R.O. aboard FROST 12 mentioned that they were going to school at Kirtland (USAF AETC's 58th SOW -- training for AFSOC air crews), & were currently flying over Arizona. 231926Z JUN 94 11176USB REACH 50269 with a phone patch to Charleston CP via MacDill GHFS. 50269 advised that they were part of the BOSCO 10 flight scheduled for an air drop at Pope AFB, but had declared an IFE & shut-down the #2 engine due to a "rising EGT indicator." REACH 50269 had a 2100Z ETA at Charleston, & wanted the CP to make provisions for the 29 paratroops to get transported to Pope. 50269 had a crew of 10. 261538Z JUN 94 11176USB SHRUB 30 with a phone patch to DSN -------- (Buckley ANGB Ops) via Offutt GHFS. 30 was a C-141 at 39-35N, 24-97W, FL 350 enroute to Buckley with a 1710Z ETA, picking up 34 pax & then quick-turning to Tyndall AFB. 261548Z JUN 94 11176USB FELIX 10 with a phone patch to Wright-Patterson AFB Metro (DSN --------) via MacDill Global. FELIX 10 was a flight of 3 C-130s enroute to Godman Army Air Field (Ft. Knox, KY) for a a troop paradrop wanting to know if conditions were good enough (ceiling above 3000') for VFR in the area. Metro advised probably not. 261603Z JUN 94 11176USB GOPHER 12 (109th AS/133AW C-130, MN ANG) with a phone patch to DSN -------- via Offutt. Phone patch was to Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport ANGB Security Police, advising that 12 would be arriving in 1 hour, & that the SPs should open up the Ops office for them. 271329Z JUN 94 11176USB BREW 08 with a phone patch to LOBO via Albrook GHFS. 08 advised LOBO that they departed MHSC at 1310Z, ETB KMKE 1910Z. 281936Z JUN 94 11176USB DUPE 56 (C-130, 166th AG, DE ANG) with a phone patch to DSN --------- (166th AG Scheduler, New Castle State Airport ANGB, Delaware). Scheduling advised that DUPE 56 was cleared to continue their mission. 281957Z JUN 94 11176USB FLOTA 79 with a phone patch to RAYMOND 24 (55t they had shut down #3 B COMMUNITY radio-checking NIGHTWATCH & entering into the SCACS net. Secondary channel was X-904. 301856Z JUN 94 13217USB OPTIC and MacDill Global preparing to run data (after initially coordinating on 11176USB), however Andrews VIP & SAM 60205 turned out to be using the frequency, so OPTIC & MacDill moved off to 15048kHz for their data. 301900Z JUN 94 13217USB SAM 60205 (89th AW C-20) & Andrews VIP. 205 took off at 1915Z & had an ETB Andrews of 2330Z. 16 pax aboard -- all 89th AW personnel, & no DVs.
