BRACKNELL: On 1st Sep 1993 the two Bracknell radio-facsimile broadcasts known as GFA and GFE will be merged into one broadcast. For the time being it is expected that the merged programme will be transmitted on the frequencies presently used for the GFA and the GFE transmissions, but sometime in the near future a subset of the frequencies used will be chosen as the frequencies for the merged broadcast to be known as GFA. The broadcast will be transmitted on a minimum of four frequencies at any one time. The new programme from 1st September will include all the aviation products that were on the GFE broadcast and also the products for shipping that were on the GFA broadcast (and generally broadcast simultaneously on the GFE broadcast). The upper-air analyses and forecasts that were disseminated on GFA will not be on the new merged broadcast. (Met Office London) Here is the latest info I have from GFA/GFE: Since 1st September the new service has been broadcast using ALL frequencies of the two earlier services. This notification advises of a reduction in the number of frequencies to take effect from 2359 UTC on 30 NOVEMBER 1993! At that time transmissions on 03289.5, 04782, 09203, 11086.5, and 14582.5 WILL CEASE! Transmissions will continue on: 04610.0 kHZ 24 hours 08040.0 kHz 24 hours 14436.0 kHz 24 hours 02618.5 kHz 1800-0600 UTC 18261.0 kHz 0600-1800 UTC This information will be broadcast from time to time on the current GFA frequencies. DAKAR: Correction for the frequencies of Dakar Meteo (FAX and RTTY) in the HF-FAX list: 04790.5/13667.5 and 19750.0 kHz. OFFENBACH: On first July this year, the Deutscher Wetterdienst HAMBURG: introduced its new Mesoscale model for Germany. This was added to the schedule for DCF54 (134.2 kHz) and in the revamp of the programme the opportunity was taken to introduce several improvements in the output of both DCF54 and the HF broadcast for shipping. Thus there were several changes in the times that charts were transmitted. The schedule for this HF broadcast is transmitted each day now at 1050 UTC rather than just once a week. Perhaps the Deutscher Wetterdienst will be moving to a satellite system, possible some time next year, although I understand that the HF broadcast for shipping will remain for some time to come. The RTTY broadcast for shipping is now disseminated on DDH8 14467.3 kHz in addition to DDH9 on 11039 kHz. There have been problems with the DDH47 frequency on 147.3 kHz and I gather that there is also a good deal of adjacent channel interference on this frequency. APRA HARBOUR: On 10th Okt (1315-1340) I have received on 16027.6 kHz the GFAX broadcast schedule (West Pacific) and there are some corections for the HF-FAX list: USN Apra Harbour GUM 16027.6 kHz -> LSB 05258.0 kHz -> LSB/USB 05262.0 kHz -> LSB/USB 10253.0 kHz -> LSB/USB 10257.0 kHz -> LSB/USB 19858.0 kHz -> LSB/USB 19862.0 kHz -> LSB/USB 23008.0 kHz -> LSB USN Yokosuka J 04956.0 kHz -> USB 12777.0 kHz -> USB 22324.5 kHz -> USB Delete the other frequencies. TOKYO: There have been some changes in the contents of the broadcasts from Tokyo Meteo. The frequencies of the general products broadcast are 03622.5/07305/09970/13597/18220/ and 23522.9 kHz (all available troughout the 24 hours). Surface analyses and 24-hour forecast charts for the North pacific area are broadcast at 0320 UTC and 0640 UTC and every six hours thereafter. Extended range forecast for part of the northern hemisphere are broadcast in the period between 0021 and 0141 UTC. (Martin W Stubbs) DIEGO GARCIA: Transmission times: 07582.0 kHZ -> 1400-0200 UTC 12806.0 kHz -> Continuous 20302.0 kHz -> 0200-1400 UTC EXMOUTH: Transmission times: 08614.0 kHz -> 1000-2200 UTC ISB 12727.5 kHz -> Continuous 16914.5 kHz -> 2200-1000 UTC The UNID on 07930.0 kHz is LRO 48 Buenos Aires Meteo ARG 120/576 TX time: 0100-0200 and 2000-2300 UTC (Thanks to Reid Kelly) PUBLICATIONS: There are two publications of particular interest. Meteorological Fasimile Broadcasts is obtainable by post from the Headquarters of the World Meteorological Organisation, the addres being WMO Secreteriat, Case postale 2300, CH-1211 Geneva 2, Switzerland. The publication is kept up-to-date by a two monthly supplement service which at present costs SW Fr 22, the publication itself costs Sw Fr 21 including postage and packing. The Admiralty List of Radio Signals, Volume 3 is available from Agents for the Sale of Admiralty Charts (1991 edition 24 US$) and contains details of transmissions of interest to shipping worldwide.
