(George Wood) AUSTRALIA--Radio Australia plans to add two new 250-kilowatt transmitters to their Darwin transmitter site. According to an on-air announcement, these should be on the air in two years' time. (Kannon Shanmugam, Kansas, USA) BELGIUM--Evening transmissions from the BRT are scheduled as follows from September 30th: To Europe at 17:00-22:30 on 5910 kHz, at 19:00-22:30 on 9925 kHz, and at 15:00-17:00 hrs on 13675 kHz. To Africa at 15:00-19:00 hrs on 21810 kHz, at 17:00-21:00 hrs on 17550 kHz, and at 21:00-22:30 hrs on 15515 kHz. The BRT will also be continously relayed between 15:00 and 22:30 on 1512 kHz. (C.G. Otte, Netherlands) BRAZIL--The German broadcast from Radiobras has been retimed to 19:30-20:30. The frequency is still 15265 kHz. (Karl-Heinz Leuther, West Germany) Radio Nacional da Amazonia has been heard on 15445 kHz, from 20:00 hurs until after 22:00 hrs. (Patrick Cody, Ireland) CANADA--Radio Canada International's broadcasts to the Middle East in French at 03:00-03:59 and in English at 04:00-04:59 will both be on 11925 kHz as from September 30th. English to Europe will be one hour later, 22:00-22:59, on 15325 and 11945 kHz. (David Crystal, Israel) ECUADOR--The HCJB broadcast to North America at 00:30-07:00 is on new 11775 kHz. (Wojciech Zaremba, Poland) There is a new service to the Middle East at 16:30-17:30 on 21480 kHz and on the omnidirectional single side band frequency 25950 kHz. (Shay Salovan, Israel) EGYPT--Since 6th September, the Egyptian pan-Arab Voice of the Arabs service from Cairo has been operating on a new frequency, 9720 kHz, for most or all of the broadcast day. The service also includes broadcasts from Nile Valley Radio and Palestine Radio. The frequency of 9720 kHz has been used by the pro-Iraqi clandestine station "Holy Mecca Radio" between 04:00 and 22:00 since August 19th. (BBC Monitoring) FINLAND--Beginning on October 16th, Radio Finland is adding a new service in Russian. The service is being offered on a trial basis until the end of May, 1991. 15 minute programs in Russian will be broadcast at 23:15, 04:30, and 05:30 hrs. All three broadcasts will be carried on 252, 558, 963, 6120, and 11755 kHz. The program at 04:30 hrs will also be on 9730, and the program at 05:30 hrs will also be on 15185 kHz. (Juhani Niinistoe, Radio Finland) GERMANY--When the two Germanies unite on October 3rd, Radio Berlin International will cease broadcasting. RBI's frequencies will go to Deutsche Welle, based in Cologne. Deutsche Welle will keep on 6 technical managers in East Berlin, but the fate of the remaining East German staff depends on whether the Bonn government approves supplementary financing. Staff size at RBI has already fallen from 250 to 130. East Germany's Deutschlandsender on 177 kHz long wave has announced Deutschlandfunk would be taking over the frequency. (Reuters and BBC Monitoring) GREECE--Correcting SCDX-2108, the Voice of Greece is using 9395 kHz for the broadcast in German at 19:40-19:50. 11645 kHz is in parallel. (Friedrich Buettner, West Germany) A new station, "Olympic Action Radio", is broadcasting on 102.1 MHz FM for English speaking visitors in the Athens area. Transmissions include news and programs from the BBC, VOA and CNN. For French speaking visitors the station broadcasts on 106.7 MHz in co-operartion with Radio France International. (Dimitri Christofis, Greece) IRAQ--The Voice of Peace, Iraq's broadcasts in English to American soldiers in Saudi Arabia, are now carried on 11860 kHz at 10:00-13:00, 16:00-18:00 and 20:00-22:00 hrs. One day the 16:00 hrs broadcast was also heard on 21675 kHz, but otherwise that frequency carries Radio Baghdad's domestic general service in Arabic. The regular Radio Baghdad service in English to Europe at 20:00-22:00 hrs has been heard twice on 13600 kHz, rather than the usual 13660. (BBC Monitoring) The transmission in German at 19:00-20:00 has also been heard on 13600 kHz instead of 13660. (Friedrich Buettner) MONGOLIA--Radio Ulan Bator has been heard in Russian to Asia on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12:40-13:10, 13:10-13:40, 17:10-17:40 and 17:40-18:10 on 6000, 9720 and 12050 kHz. (D. Vasilyev, Estonia) PHILIPPINES--The Far East Broadcasting Company has started a service to the Middle East at 02:30-03:30 on 15490 kHz. (Sanil Deep, India) SAUDI ARABIA/IRAQ--The Broadcasting Service of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia domestic General Service from Riyadh was observed broadcasting in Arabic on 15495 kHz from approximately 16:00 on 10th September. The transmission was in parallel with scheduled 21505 kHz. Since 1st September, Radio Baghdad's General Service and Voice of the Masses service have frequently been observed on 15495 kHz, a frequency formerly used by Radio Kuwait. (BBC Monitoring) SPAIN--Updating SCDX-2111, Spanish Foreign Radio has added German to its schedule. Programs are heard at 17:00-17:30 on 9765, 9875 and 11790 kHz. (Karl-Heinz Leuther) French is broadcast to Europe at 18:00-19:00 on 11790 and 9875 kHz and 20:00-21:00 on 9875 kHz; to Africa 19:00-20:00 on 15375 kHz and to North America 23:00-24:00 on 9630 kHz. (Francois Chalory, France) USSR--The German service of Radio Minsk is now as follows: Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays 17:30-18:00 on 7150, 7240, 9600 and 11960 kHz. There is a youth program every first, second and third Wednesday of the month. (Friedrich Buettner and Karl-Heinz Leuther) CLUB NEWS--The Leningrad Amateur Inter Radio Center and Leningrad SWL--DX- CLUB has announced a "New Wave Diploma" for SWL's and DXers all over the world. To qualify for the diploma, you should send in a list of 60 verified European broadcasting stations including names and frequencies. For non- European DXers only 30 stations are required. For the "Super-Sticker" the number of stations is doubled: 120 for European and 60 for non-European DXers. Only European broadcasting stations on long, medium and short wave and VHF-FM are accepted.
