This was due to our English service's week of broadcasts from Iceland. We hope you all listened to the special edition of Sweden Calling DXers on November 14th, covering the Icelandic broadcasting scene. If not, the entire week of programs will probably be repeated within the next couple of months. (George Wood) AFGHANISTAN--The external service to Europe from Radio Afghanistan can now be heard 1830-19:00 hours in German, 19:00-19:30 in English and 19:30-20:00 in French, all on 6020, 7215 and 9635 kHz. These are all new frequencies. (Uwe Gruner, West Germany) ANDAMAN ISLANDS--Updating SCDX-2061, All India Radio in Port Blair can now be heard 02:30-03:45 hours and 07:00-0850 hours, both on 7180 kHz, and 10:30- 16:30 hours on 4760 kHz. The last frequency offers good reception with All India Radio at Leh, Ladakh, in the background. (S. Anand, India) BELIZE--Radio One on 3285 kHz has been inactive since June but is expected to be on the air soon. All medium wave transmitters are operating with reduced power. A new 10 kW transmitter under construction in Ladyville will replace the present transmitter in Belize City on 830 kHz. The transmitter in Punta Gorda has moved from 910 kHz to 920 kHz. (Stig Hartvig Nielsen in "DX-Fokus", Denmark) BHUTAN--The Bhutan Broadcasting Service has been heard at 14:15 hours on 6035 kHz with news headlines followed by a weather report. Reception was disturbed by China and Moscow operating on the same frequency. (Leigh Morris, Australia via "Arthur Cushen's DX World) The BBS has also been noted in English Sundays from 09:30-10:00 hours on 6035 kHz. (Swapan Kumar Ghosh, India) Updating SCDX-2058, the BBS is reported to operate daytime on 9615 kHz with 50 kW but we have not yet seen any reports that indicate that this transmitter is on the air. (DX Editor) CAMEROON--Radio Cameroon in Yaounde is apparently off shortwave at present. The regular channels of 4850 and 6060 kHz have not been heard for some time. 9745 kHz which was used some years ago is also silent. Both Douala and Bertoua are also off shortwave. Garoua uses 7240 kHz all day and Buea and Bafoussam are operating on full shortwave schedules. (C. Aryommu, Nigeria) CHAD--Radiodiffusion Nationale Tchadienne operates a 1 kW transmitter in Abeche, which is on the air in French and Arabic 05:00-06:00 hours and 16:30- 18:00 hours on 5900 kHz. (WRTH via "ShortWave News", Denmark) FINLAND--Radio Finland has introduced a new nighttime service for listeners in Europe using long and medium wave frequencies: German can be heard 23:30- 00:00 hours, English 00:00-00:25 and French 00:25-00:40 hours, on 254, 558 and 963 kHz. VHF-FM 103.7 MHz is in parallel to Helsinki. (Henning Sandte, West Germany) Radio Finland can be heard at 09:00 hours on 17800 and 21550 kHz. (P. Duryodhana, India) GHANA--Radio Accra, the International Service of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, has been heard around 20:00 hours on 3366 kHz. (Jibrin B. Abdul, Nigeria) Accra has also been noted around 20:00 hours on 4915 kHz with programs in local languages. ("ShortWave News") INDIA--Updating SCDX-2061, All India Radio in Leh, Ladakh has been testing since the beginning of August at 11:30-16:30 hours in Ladakhi, which is a Tibetan dialect, with a relay from New Delhi 15:15-16:00 hours, on 4760 kHz. (Supratik Sanatani, India) KIRIBATI--Radio Kiribati has been observed from sign-on at 18:25 hours followed by news from Radio Australia at 19:00 on 14917,7 kHz with fair strength. (Olle Alm, on a DXpedition to Abisko in north Sweden, via "DXclusive", Finland) MONGOLIA--The English language schedule from Radio Ulan Bator is to Australia and New Zealand from 09:10 to 09:40 hours on 9615 and 12015 kHz, to the Far East from 12:00 to 12:30 hours (except for Tuesdays and Fridays), on 9615 and 12025 kHz, to South Asia from 14:45 to 15:15 hours on 9575, 9645 and 15305 kHz and finally to Europe from 19:40 to 20:10 hours on 4080 and 12050 kHz. (Paul Kennett, England) The European service is also reported on 7315 and 9985 kHz. (Adrian Childs, England) NIGERIA--The Voice of Nigeria broadcasts currently only to West Africa. The transmissions to North Africa, Europe, America and Australasia have been suspended due to transmitter problems. The Voice of Nigeria can now be heard in English to West Africa from 04:55 to 06:00 hours, from 08:00 to 11:00 hours and from 14:00 to 17:00 hours. Programs in French can be heard 06:00- 07:00 hours, 12:00-14:00 and 18:00-22:00 hours. There are also programs in Hausa 07:00-08:00, 11:00-12:00 and 17:00-18:00 hours. The frequency is 7255 kHz. (BBC Monitoring) Radio Nigeria in Kaduna has been noted since September 30th using the unannounced frequency of 9570 kHz in parallel with 4770 kHz. This carries the Channel 2 program until sign off at midnight. (C. Aryommu, Nigeria) PHILIPPINES--Updating SCDX-2067, Radio Veritas Asia can be heard in English 01:30-01:55 hours on 15360 and 17800 kHz and 15:00-15:30 on 9525 and 15445 kHz. (P. Duryodhana, India) Radio Veritas Asia can also be heard in Russian 10:30-11:25 hours and in Ukrainian 16:00-17:00 hours, both on 15110 kHz with 250 kW. (Robin Viegas, India) Radio Veritas Asia has also been noted with a program in Sinhalese at 00:00 on 15300 and 17800. (Hugh Waters, Singapore) TONGA--The latest information from United Christian Broadcasters is that work is underway to prepare the ground for a 300 foot antenna tower, which will be the highest structure on the island. The station will operate on 738 kHz and later on shortwave and FM. (Arthur Cushen) WESTERN SAMOA--There are now two radio stations operating from Western Samoa. Radio Polynesia KWS opened September 30th and is on the air from 06:00 to 24:00 hours weekdays and from 10:00 hours on Sundays on 98.1 MHz FM. 2AP, which was established in 1948, is upgrading and will install two 10 kW transmitters. 747 kHz will be used for programs in Samoan, and 1062 kHz for English. The new transmitters should be operational by the end of the year. The existing repeaters may be closed it the new transmitters give adequate coverage.
