::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: SWEDEN CALLING DXERS :: :: from Radio Sweden :: :: Number 2047--June 13, 1989 :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Shortwave and other electronic media news from Radio Sweden. This week's bulletin was written by George Wood. Packet Radio BID SCDX2047 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPUTER CORNER--Chris Dennison has written from England to say that he has tried to reach us via Electronic mail, without success, using our Easyplex and FidoNet addresses. He uses the computer system at Newcastle University, but the advisor there has never heard of either Easyplex or FidoNet. And Chris wonders if we have an address from the DARPA Internet? We used to have such an address, using the COM system at Stockholm University. But since no one ever sent a contribution to the program that way, we discontinued that service several months ago. It could be resumed, if there was interest. It's easy to understand why the advisor had never heard of Easyplex. That's not the name of a network, it's the name of the electronic mail section on the CompuServe system. CompuServe is available over international computer networks such as Telenet in the US, IPSS in Britain, and Datapak in Sweden. It is also accessible from the MCI Mail system as well as direct telephone numbers in major Western European and Far Eastern cities. But it is not accessible from DARPA Internet. FidoNet is an international system of computer bulletin boards. If you telephone a local board that belongs to the system, you can send messages to users on similar boards anywhere in the world. However, we should point out that the Radio Sweden FidoNet address has recently changed. Users should send their messages to George Wood at 2:202/297.
