The Atlantean Enquirer V.3 beta 2
-by banj0 obliVion
The Enquirer has 2 parts..
1) Enq Shell, This is a wee program that lets you load maps,
create new maps and play around with the Terrain bitmaps.
It also handles .dta file compacting.
2) The Enquirer itself. Can either be started from a Command
line (this is so you can have an icon, that you click on
to load a map) or is started from the Enq Shell
PC utility.
enq_edit.zip (6 KB) [Jul 27 1995]
EnqEdit, a flag mask making utility for The Atlantean Enquirer.
Editing the graphics is a wee bit fiddly, but quite easy once you
get the hang of it. Editing and creating new graphics for the Enquirer
lets you - The User - customize this app to YOUR needs.

Announcing Galactic version 2.2:
PROGRAM NAME: "GALACTIC" [v2.2] {June 1997}
GAME SYSTEM: Traveller/MegaTraveller
AUTHOR: Jim Vassilakos (jimv@empirenet.com)
FUNCTION: Sector Viewer/Generator
SIZE: 2,854,580 Bytes
OPERATING SYSTEM: IBM (MS-DOS)

the maps in VGA, translates the UWP code to English,
and keeps campaign notes in text files which can be
accessed directly from the map. The maps all mesh
seemlessly. Includes lots of official and non-official
sectors. Even includes some world mapping software.
Note, you must use the "-d" option when unzipping:
>>>>>>>> pkunzip -d gal22.zip <<<<<<<<
Oh, and make sure you're using pkunzip 2.04g to do the unzipping.
If you have trouble getting Galactic, unzipping it, or whatever,
let me know. I'll be happy to postal you a set of floppies.
For those who have been using version 2.1, here some of the new
stuff:
* Charles Collin contributed several alien names files for world
generation
* Dakin Burdick contributed the Magyar Sector
* Michel Boucher contributed the Beyond Sector & Vanguard Reaches
(these two sectors originally developed by Paranoia Press)
* Lewis Roberts updated his TNE galaxy, revising the Old Expanses and
adding Spica & Diaspora, also contributing a Classic version of the
Spica Sector (Spica data for both eras created by Leroy Guatney)
* Andrew Vallance contributed his Greater Magellanic Cloud galaxy as
well as the Ley Sector and Glimmerdrift Reaches (these two sectors
were originally developed by Judges Guild)
Here are the software upgrades:
* Nearly all of the UWP stats separated into user-modifiable UWP.DAT
* Added non-world objects to map (see Variant-1:Gythios/Idhra subsector)
* Added insertion/deletion feature on the subsector map (use Ins/Del)
* Added world mapping feature (use F4 from the subsector map)
* Added data-strainer for PBeM-GMs (use F5 from sector or subsector maps)
And here are a few extras:
* Incorporated Traveller Copyright Archive v0.2 into help section
* Incorporated information on the Galactic Mailing List
* Included section2.exe (dgp-sector sectioner) in section2 directory
That's all for now... let me know if you run into any snags...

geo-101.zip (142 KB) [Jul 27 1995]
Geo generates fractal maps. It gradually evolved in an attempt to create
random, yet realistic, regional maps for fantasy gaming. Version 1.01 is the
latest version, and the first to be released publicly. Its primary features
are the fractal generator, the ability to load and save map files, displaying
the map as a simulated "globe", and various features for tweaking the map
characteristics.
Geo runs only on 80286 processors or better; it would be ridiculously slow on
anything less. You also need around 450K of RAM and VGA capable of displaying
16 colors in 640x480. I use DOS 4.01 and haven't tried it on anything else.
Source code is included. Copyright 1994 By Michael Harvey.
grid361.exe (--link--) [Jan 23 1996]
GRID by Emanuele Sacchi is a program born
to make life easier for all the people
who use hexagon maps. With it, you can draw your hexes, create your
maps, print them, 'walk' on the maps while the program rolls for
random encounters, and much more. Included are some ready settings,
but it's easy to create new ones from the scratch. Full Graphical
User Interface (GUI), mouse and XMS (or EMS) required.
Freeware. Self extracting archive.

hexmap45.zip (240 KB) [Aug 8 1995]
Well, it's been a while since I stopped work on Hexmap,
so I'm going to stop requiring people to register.
Use the registration number "000014" and all features should
be enabled.

I hope you enjoy HEXMAP (a MS Windows program for
generating wargame-style hexagonal-grid maps). The last
few versions of the code were optomized for color printing,
and make heavy demands of memory and resources. If you have
trouble running, try dropping back to a previous version,
to be found in the "oldversions" directory.
mapcad.zip (122 KB) [Nov 18 1996]
Game Map CAD, by Curtis Keisler, is a program that lets you
create icons to be placed on hexagon map you create. The icons are
created using the simple vector commands, move, draw and line. Once
these icons are created they may be placed on a hex map with
dimensions you choose. You may view the map in various scales. You
may also pan across the map in any direction. Runs in MS-DOS.
mapper01.zip (311 KB) [Dec 7 1997]
PROGRAM NAME: "MAPPER" [v0.1] {December 1997}
AUTHOR: Jim Vassilakos (jimv@empirenet.com)
FUNCTION: World Mapper
OPERATING SYSTEM: IBM (MS-DOS)
SIZE: 318,730 bytes zipped
COMMENTS: Create maps with hexagonal color-tiles so you
can share your RPG campaign world with the rest of
us on the Net. Requires VGA graphics or better. May
attach campaign notes to the map via an easy-to-learn
menuing system. Two unfinished sample worlds already
included. Note, you must use "-d" option when unzipping:
>>>>>>>> pkunzip -d mapper01.zip <<<<<<<<
If you draw up any campaign maps using this program, please
send me a copy so I can include them in the next version...
mgen.zip (180 KB) [Jan 14 1997]
MGEN.ZIP contains Map Generator, a program for creating roleplaying maps.
The maps are topographical, but have a 3d outlook. Additionally, there is
an easy interface for adding map symbols, roads, text etc. The program is
for MS-DOS and requires a VGA display and a mouse.
This is the freely distributable shareware version of Map Generator.
There is a 'full' version available to registerers that adds a few handy
options.

Use bitmaps from other applications (eg fractals or map generators)
Link any object to other worlds, to GM Notes, to images, to other views
Snap to existing points, Snap to grid
Interpolate points into line with fractal formula (using real coastlines
as a seed)
Player and GM views. Objects marked 'GM-only' dont show in Player view
Hex or square grids superimposed
Distance tool for measuring in user units
Added in 0.2:
Printing. (primitive at this point)
Smoothing of lines
Restore view - return to view when world last saved or restored.
Big time bug fix over 0.1
The file can be got from
ftp://ftp.servtech.com/pub/users/irony/mapnote/mn020.zip
Please note that this is still Alpha - not all features in menus are
implemented yet. However it is has all the functions above and is in use
in world building. I greatly desire testing for elimination of bugs and
ideas in which it can be implemented.

World Builder is a shareware program to draw maps of worlds. It uses
continental drift and true meteorological computations to provide
realistic maps including mountain ranges, rain shadows and rivers.
You can use World Builder to invent worlds for roleplaying games or as
background for fiction, or you can use it to learn about earth science
processes. The current version of World Builder is 1.3, released on
June 12, 1998. It is available on Windows-95, Windows-NT, Linux Intel
and Sun Solaris platforms. The WWW site is:

worldmap.zip (839 KB) [Feb 2 1996]
PROGRAM NAME: "Worldmap" [v1.0] {January 1996}
AUTHOR: Jim Vassilakos (jimv@cs.ucr.edu)
FUNCTION: Mapping Worlds, Cities, Castles, Dungeons,
and Starships for RPG settings & scenarios
OPERATING SYSTEM: IBM (MS-DOS)
COMMENTS: Create maps so you can share your worlds/
dungeons/etc with the rest of us on the Net.
Some minor glitches exist when operating under
Windows, so straight DOS is preferred. Program
draws maps pretty slowly except on relatively
high-end machines with decent video ram. Comes
complete with five example maps along with some
attached text including a short adventure.
Note, you must use "-d" option when unzipping:

UPGRADE: Go to my homepage at http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~jimv/,
go to the programs section, and pick-up a copy of the
update there under the heading "Worldmap Upgrade
(v1.0 to v1.0b)". Notice that the upgrade without the
is no good by itself without the files of v1.0.
