INTRUDUCTION BY MICHAEL WILDOER "Japanese WordMaster is a new Japanese study aid which offers two highly integrated functions in one package - a vocabulary and Kanji study system, and a powerful multimedia Japanese-English Kanji dictionary. It is also a complete dictionary authoring tool, which operates without KanjiTalk or the Japanese Language Kit. You can create your own custom dictionaries and add full color pictures, sound effects (such as pronunciation) and notes to word entries. Dictionaries may be customised to any course content and structure, allowing JWM to augment any type of existing Japanese language course text with multimedia CAL. Minimum requirements: Macintosh System 6.0.7, B/W screen, 900k RAM." AND FOR V2.0.5...... The very latest version (v2.0.5) of Japanese WordMaster is contained in this archive. It is stored in CompactPro format. Japanese WordMaster is a new Japanese study aid which offers two highly integrated functions in one package: an AI-based vocabulary and Kanji study system, and a powerful multimedia Japanese-English Kanji dictionary. It is designed to run on any Macintosh with System 6.0.7 or higher, and is suitable for students from upper-level elementary to University level and beyond. It uses color extensively, but will operate on any B/W system (such as the Mac Classic). It is compatible to the new Power Macs. It is also a complete dictionary authoring tool, which operates *without* KanjiTalk or the Japanese Language Kit. You can create your own custom dictionaries and add full color pictures, sound effects (such as pronunciation) and notes to word entries. Dictionaries may be customised to any course content and structure, allowing JWM to augment any type of existing Japanese language course text with multimedia CAL. JWM can also be customised to work with secondary languages other than English. The English definitions stored in dictionaries can be replaced with definitions in French, German, Spanish, Dutch, and other similar romanised languages. This allows dictionaries to be prepared for users learning Japanese whose native language is not English, but who can understand English (and thus operate the software effectively). This applies to most European countries. The help system built into the software provides concise information on how JWM works - simply press the question mark icon to launch the help system. The User Manual provides the necessary depth on how to effectively use all of JWM's features. If you wish to try out the JWM exercise system immediately after installation, select 'Start' from the 'Exercises' menu. Some sample words have already been set up. Pricing and ordering information is shown on the 'JWM product range' help cards. Note that JWM is a retail product, so may be stocked by your local software dealer, Japanese language bookstore or University bookshop. Alternatively, you may wish to order directly from Vitronics. This demo has been limited in various ways compared to the commercial edition: it can only be used for 10 hours, sample dictionaries are limited in size to 1000 words and a few features have been disabled. These are clearly indicated by appropriate alerts. You are welcome to distribute this demo freely - its CompactPro archive is around 1.2mb in size (ie. small enough to fit on a single high density floppy disk). We hope you enjoy using the software and subsequently choose to purchase the commercial edition. Best of luck with your studies... ------------------------------------------------------ Michael Wildoer Vitronics GPO Box 215, Adelaide, Australia, 5001 Telephone/Fax: +61-8-235-0003 (International) (08) 235 0003 (Australia) Internet email: mwildoer@economics.adelaide.edu.au ------------------------------------------------------
