Scott Clark, academic dean of Westminster Theological Seminary in California. Clark, whose ministerial credentials are currently in the Reformed Church in the United States, has already joined Escondido URC. Clark pastored an RCUS congregation in Kansas City from 1987 to 1993, did his doctoral study at Oxford University from 1993 to 1995, and taught at Wheaton College from 1995 until accepting his current position at Westminster in July, 1997. "I'm very enthusiastic about the URC; this is a group that is confessionally committed, doctrinally sound, and warmly evangelical," said Clark. "They are orderly without being obsessive, and I appreciate that." NR #1999-016: For Immediate Release: Westminster Academic Dean Joins United Reformed Churches by Darrell Todd Maurina, Press Officer United Reformed News Service (February 11, 1999) URNS - Presuming a satisfactory examination, the United Reformed Churches will have another seminary professor among its membership: Dr. R. While southern California has a number of congregations of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Church in America, there is no local congregation of Clark's denomination. "I don't have any theological or dogmatic reasons for leaving the RCUS; I had two sets of reasons for wanting to join the URC," said Clark. "Here I am in Escondido, I'm two hours away from the nearest RCUS. I am a Three Forms of Unity man, here I am worshipping in a Three Forms church, and I put my local membership in the Escondido church already. Now that I'm back in the United States, personally I didn't think there was any reason to keep my membership in the [RCUS] South Central Classis and personal membership in the Kansas City RCUS." "I'm very enthusiastic about the URC; this is a group that is confessionally committed, doctrinally sound, and warmly evangelical," said Clark. "They are orderly without being obsessive, and I appreciate that." If Clark sustains his colloquium doctum examination on March 9, he will be the seventh current or emeritus seminary professor on the ministerial roll of the United Reformed Churches. In addition to Clark, United Reformed seminary faculty include the president, Dr. W. Robert Godfrey, emeritus professor Dr. Derke Bergsma, and current professor Dr. Michael Scott Horton. United Reformed professors at Mid-America Reformed Seminary are Dr. Nelson Kloosterman and Prof. Mark Vander Hart, as well as emeritus professor Dr. P.Y. DeJong.
