NR #1995-4: For Immediate Release Synod Issue of Outlook Mailed to Over 80,000 CRC Homes by Darrell Todd Maurina, Press Officer Reformed Believers Press Service GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (January 3, 1995) RBPS - By special arrangement with Reformed Believers United and the Committee of Concerned Members, the publishers of Outlook magazine have mailed their issue on Synod 1994 to over 80,000 homes in the Christian Reformed denomination. The project used the mailing list gathered in 1991 by Concerned Members and RBU to send The Reformed Witness to as many CRC homes as possible. "The main reason was to acquaint the denomination with the contents of the majority report [opposing women in office] which was adopted by Synod 1994," said Outlook co-editor Laurie Vanden Heuvel. "The Banner did not print it and never will, and it is only fair to the people of the denomination that they get to see this report. It has been very greatly maligned by its opponents, including the editor of the Banner, it is only fair that people get to read it firsthand." Vanden Heuvel said that after reading the report on Synod 1994 in the Banner, she and her husband began to discuss how best to defend the synodical decision. The result of that discussion was that the two set out to raise over $20,000, the amount needed to reprint and mail the synodical issue of Outlook. "The prophet says, 'My people are destroyed by lack of knowledge,'" said Vanden Heuvel. "We realized that this decision of 1994 is jeopardized by the fact that it still has many opponents in the denomination. The best way to hold onto the progress people have made is to let people know." Contact List: Rev.
