Regardless, I just want to make >sure I don't trash out any older utilities (like JPEGView, Sparkle, and >AVI to QT) if I'll still be needing them. Also, I could be mistaken here >again, but it also sounds like .wavs and other sound formats will be >double-clickable. Luckily you should be able to get rid of Sparkle and AVI to QT since you can now view MPEG movies in MoviePlayer (since QT2.5) and QuickTime 3.0 supports the .AVI file format so you should be able to view .AVI movies without converting them. You may have to install some extra codecs like the Intel Indeo codec set for Macintosh to view Indeo-encoded .AVI movies . JPEGView has an option to open files using QuickTime so as long as that's checked, you'll be able to open up images in JPEGView using the new QuickTime codecs (theoretically of course). Sound formats like .WAV and .AU may be double-clickable from the Finder, but will probably launch MoviePlayer instead of playing back sans UI like 'snd ' files. One section of the QuickTime control panel is called 'QuickTime Exchange' which when enabled, is supposed to make it easier to open foreign files under QT 3.0. I don't know if this means natively in the Finder or opened through MoviePlayer -- I suspect the later. >And lastly, when is it supposed to go final? Supposedly sometime in February. The latest beta expires February 19, so either it will go final around that time or there will be another beta. Hope this helps! Hello and HELP!!!, I have a MAC 7500 with a multiscan 1705 monitor.I am using system 7.5.2 I was using the internet yesterday and decided to get cute and adjust one of the monitor options at the bottom of my screen. Here I have the option of using 3 different setting to get different sizes on the screen. I don't really remember all the numbers, but something like 480 x 600; 800 x ?; and 1000 x ?. When I use these I get different sizes on my screen. Well yesterday I decided to change from one option to the other and instantly the screen started flicking. I tried to adjust it with the monitor control panel and succeded in only getting the screen to stop flicking. I tried restarting several times, rebooting with the original CD system disk and. . . even tried to reset the PRAM settings like I was instructed in my users manual. Press the command, option, P-R and restart and wait for the second chime and release. When I did this I was so happy because the mac happy face came on normally and then the Box came into the screen and then it momentarily blinked and then 8^( went back to the flicking screen. I don't know what to do. Does anyone haver any ideas? If you do would you please please please email me at ftek@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us thanks, Figen Tek-Puentes ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Jan 98 13:41:58 +0100 From: Patrik Montgomery Subject: [A] 6116 and Word On 98-01-10 10:40, Info-Mac used quantum mechanics and the General Theory of Relativity to draw the conclusion that: >One of my facutly has been having a problem with MSWord 5.1a and a >PowerMac 6116CD (System 7.5 vanilla as far as I know). I'm trying to digitize some video clips using Adobe Premiere. Video works fine, but the audio is way too hot and terribly distorted when played back. I'm using a patch cord that converts from the two RCA plugs on the camera to a stereo miniplug. I assumed that the built-in sound-in port on the Mac would want line level. I can find no way to adjust the input level (via the "Monitors and Sound" control panel). The input source (in the control panel) says "Microphone," of course, but the manual suggests that the input actually works at line level. Any clues? I decided to put a 32 Meg SIMM into the one slot and replace the original 4 Megs in that slot. I popped open the back of the machine, slid out the motherboard, and replaced the 4 Meg SIMM as I kept myself grounded. After sliding the board back in, I found that the machine would not even power up. No monitor came on, no drive spun up, not one single sound came out of my machine....no response at all. I checked the power cord, the ADB connections, and the keyboard and everything is fine with those. I then put back the originial 4 Meg SIMM into the slot but still nothing when I triedto start it. Then I tried to run the machine without anything in the slot and running with only the 4Megs soldered on the board...and still nothing. I tried pushing the Reset button on the back of the machine...and still nothing. Any ideas on what's going on ? Did I fry my motherboard and if so, how can I definitely know that this is the case ? Also, I noticed that on the back of the motherboard, there is a bright red button marked RESET. What does this button do and does this have anything to do with my problem ? Hello again Daly: I find myself recommending the "Pure Mac" web page again : The "olden" link from that page contains lots of games (children's and otherwise) that can run on the older b/w macs, even if they have humungous monitors. We have used a game called "Baby Smash" on the Mac Classic our young daughter uses. It is a "bang the keyboard and watch/listen what happens" kind of game...very nice. A similar game is called "Key Whacker." There is a draw program somewhere under the "olden" link called "Kid Pix"; I think this is a reworking of the old MacDraw/Paint programs, but designed for kids. Lots of alphabet and numbers stuff to do, as well as the usual collection of paintbrushes, pencils, spraypaints, patterns, etc. James Atkinson engja@showme.missouri.edu On 01/09/1998 12:29 AM Daly Jessup said:> >Anyway, he's looking for games for his son.
