 WHAT IS THIS?

QDECRYPT.EXE is a DOS program that can decrypt files encrypted
with either QUICRYPT.EXE (the weakened trial version) or
QCRYPT.EXE (the full strength "registered" version). QD.EXE is a
program that can be used to make self-decrypting executable
files from files encrypted with QUICRYPT.EXE or QCRYPT.EXE. The
encryption programs are distributed separately in QCRYPT11.ZIP.

 WHAT IS THE POINT?

The reason for QDECRYPT.EXE is that (1) it is exportable, since
it is quite incapable of encrypting anything, and (2) it is
capable of decrypting data encrypted with the full strength
 "registered" version of QCRYPT.EXE.

The reason for QD.EXE is that it can be used to create
self-decrypting executables. By this, I mean that you can send
one .EXE file to someone that is not real familiar with
cryptography. When that person runs the .EXE file, they will be
prompted for the correct passphrase. If they enter the correct
passphrase, the data embedded in the .EXE will be decrypted to a
file on their hard disk. If not, it won't. Like QDECRYPT.EXE,
 QD.EXE is exportable.

 HOW DO I USE QDECRYPT.EXE?

Simply specify the file to be decrypted on the command line.

 HOW DO I USE QD.EXE?

Simply append the encrypted file to the end of a copy of
 QD.EXE. For example,

 copy /b qd.exe+message.qc message.exe

creates a file called MESSAGE.EXE that you can send to a friend,
and when she runs it, it will create a plain text file if she
 enters the correct passphrase.

 WHAT DOES THIS COST?

QDECRYPT.EXE and QD.EXE are donorware. You may use them for
free, but if you feel these programs are of value, please send a
donation of US$20 or whatever you think they are worth to:

 CONTACTING THE AUTHOR

Use the above snail mail address, or email mpj@ebible.org,
 mpj@csn.net, mpj@compuserve.com, m.p.johnson@ieee.org, or
soaring.eagle@juno.com. (Listed in order of preference -- if one
doesn't work, try the next one on the list.)

 IS SOURCE CODE AVAILABLE?

Part of it is. The Sapphire II Stream Cipher code is available
at http://www.sni.net/~mpj/crypto.htm and on the Colorado
Catacombs BBS at 303-772-1062, but only if you are in the USA or
Canada. The decompression code in these programs is from the
PKWare Data Compression Library. That just leaves a bit of key
management, file padding, and file i/o code.

 AUTHENTICATION

If you have access to Pretty Good Privacy and the MD5SUM program
that comes (in source form) with it, you can use this file to
check the integrity of the files listed below. MD5SUM.EXE is is
in ftp://ftp.csn.net/~mpj/public/md5sum.zip, and also on the
 Colorado Catacombs BBS at 303-772-1062.

To check the files in this distribution against this fingerprint
 file, issue the command:

 md5sum -cv qdecrypt.txt

To verify that this file has not been altered, add my public key
(at the end of this file and also at
ftp://ftp.csn.net/~mpj/mpjkey.asc) to your PGP public key ring
(if it is not already there), then issue the command:

 pgp qdecrypt.txt

For more information on md5sum, type md5sum -h on the command
 line.
